What are the Treatment Options for Kidney Disease?
Options and treatments for kidney disease vary depending on the cause and stage of kidney failure. Many people with the early stages of kidney disease can slow the progression of end stage renal disease significantly though diet and lifestyle changes. The stages of kidney disease range from stage 1 and spans to a stage 5. Stage 1 is the first stage and many people do not have symptoms and are unaware of their condition. Stage 5 is the most serious and a person has very little kidney function left, this stage is also called end stage renal disease or ESRD.
Each of these stages can be different for each person and the progression can also be different. Early diagnosis is key in getting the correct treatment and plan going forward.

Stage 3 – Monitor, Change Diet, Discuss Medicine Options with your Nephrologist

Where We Need Help
Education is key in slowing the progression of CKD. Researching new drugs and treatments for those at the various stages of CKD is very important to the GKH Foundation. With funds raised through this website and other GKH outreach, we invest in the research departments that focus on education, cutting edge technologies and medicine to treat kidney disease. We also educate the public in new diet ideas that are more fit for a realistic lifestyle, and the breakthroughs in medical advancement in the treatment of kidney disease. GKH is dedicated to raising awareness regarding living donation. If you would like to share your story of living with CKD and how it has affected you, please contact us.
“There are currently 91 thousand people on the kidney transplant waiting list in the US alone. The wait is up to 5 years for a deceased donor kidney.”
