What Is Our Goal?
Education is one of the most important aspects of our organization. Educating the public on what kidney disease is and the signs and causes of this disease can save lives. Kidney disease can go completely undetected until it is too late and dialysis/transplant is needed or a life is lost due to kidney failure. With proper education, kidney disease and kidney failure can be avoided. Kidney disease is not a guarantee with diabetes and hypertension, but the chances of developing kidney disease is elevated in these groups and not understanding the prevention methods and treatments can affect the rate of progression in CKD patients.
Education on advanced treatment modalities is also important. What type of dialysis is right for the patient? What type of nutrition options are there? Where can the best treatment be obtained? What can one expect before and after transplant? What type of exercise is recommended for those with CKD? What can one expect in the short and long run with a CKD diagnosis?
GKH will help in answering these questions and more by posting regular updates on this website and through various live events, webinars, and open discussion forums. By utilizing GKH’S extensive network of some of the world’s leading experts in kidney health, GKH is committed to being the public’s #1 resource relating to kidney health.
What we are doing to Educate
This website was created and is maintained by patients, doctors, and nutritionists and is intended to capture those seeking to learn more about Chronic Kidney Disease. With the money raised through this site and through various events that GKH will host throughout the year, GKH will spearhead various campaigns and programs to ensure that those who are most at risk can receive information on prevention and treatment. Education is power and because CKD is a silent killer, most people affected don’t know that they are affected until they experience a serious complication. The goal of Global Kidney Health is to avoid the stress of finding out about the disease late in the game. GKH will stage events across the US and throughout the world to inform the public about the warning signs of CKD, the causes of CKD, who’s most at risk and the treatment options of those affected with CKD. GKH will focus on places that have the most high risk individuals and take education to the street. Online GKH will host various webinars, update its website in real time with new information. GKH will also offer global resources and will be able to refer individuals to the best health care available in their areas. Global Kidney Health is unmasking kidney disease through education.
"31 million people are currently diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and there are currently 91 thousand awaiting a kidney transplant."
